Athens-Clarke County collects recyclables in two (2) mixed "streams". All paper items may be mixed together and all bottles and cans may be mixed together. The following items may be collected for recycling:

Bottles & Cans Aluminum Soda cans Foil Food trays Food Cans Steel, bi-metal and tin Glass Bottles and Jars Clear, brown, green and blue Plastic Bottles (click here to learn more about the numbers on plastic containers) Bottles and jugs marked with a #1 or #2 No plastic bags Empty Aerosol Cans Remove tops and make sure the can is emptied

Paper Items Cardboard Please flatten Office Paper Copy Paper Letterhead Computer printouts Envelopes Include all colors of paper No carbon paper Shredded paper (please bag in a clear bag) Newspapers Include inserts Junk Mail Advertisements Brochures Fliers Paperboard Boxes Empty food boxes Shoe boxes Magazines, Catalogs and Telephone Books Remove any plastic wrap Paper Bags Grocery store or paper shopping bags "Clean" fast food bags are acceptable Milk and Juice Cartons Remove plastic caps
