Landfill Services
 The Athens-Clarke County Landfill is a state-of-the-art, lined Subtitle D landfill. The ACC landfill is comprised of about 400 acres with a remaining capacity of 10 years. Approximately 300 tons of material are disposed in the ACC landfill per day (as of January 2006). In August 1992, ACC entered into a landfill agreement with neighboring Oglethorpe County. This allowed for the expansion of the ACC landfill into Oglethorpe County on approximately 40 acres of property owned by ACC. This agreement also required that all construction and demolition waste be diverted to the Oglethorpe County C&D landfill (located on Highway 78).
LOCATION:
5700 Lexington Road (Travel approximately 7 miles out Lexington Road. The entrance to the ACC Landfill will be on the left and is clearly marked with a large concrete sign.)
HOURS:
Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Sunday CLOSED

GARBAGE:
All garbage must be covered by a tarp and secured. Transporting unsecured loads is illegal! OCGA 40-6-254: No person shall operate any motor vehicle with a load on or in such vehicle unless the load is adequately secured to prevent the dropping or shifting of the load onto the roadway. Any person who operates a vehicle in violation of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Commercial - $34.00 per ton (1 ton = 2,000 pounds)
Residential -$ .50 per bag up to 6 bags
Over 6 bags will be charged at $34.00 per ton ($5.00 minimum).
LEAF AND LIMB:
Commercial - $14.00 per ton
Residential -$14.00 per ton with a $5.00 minimum
OTHER SERVICES:

Recycling: FREE
- Car Batteries: $1.00 each
- Mulch (wood chips from the Leaf and Limb program):
The material is chipped into mulch at the ACC
Landfill. The mulch is sold for $7.00 per pickup truck
load. Residents can buy mulch at the landfill all
year round at the following times:
Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.and Saturday 7:30
a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
Please note: The only time ACC Landfill employees
are available to assist with loading mulch is Monday
- Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Paint:
$.50 per can
- Propane Tanks: $1.00 per tank
- Scrap Metal Recycling: Refrigerators, bicycles,
small appliances, etc., can be recycled at the landfill
for FREE of charge. Proceeds from the sale of these
items support the local 4-H club.
- Tires (NO RIMS!): $3.00 per standard passenger or
light truck tire, $10.00 per commercial truck tire

NOTE: The landfill manager conducts random inspections of all loads entering the landfill and is authorized to inspect any suspicious loads.
