Teacher Reuse Store

The sixth annual Regional Teacher Reuse Store will open again on Saturday, August 7th from 9:00 a.m. - noon at the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department (location – 725 Hancock Industrial Way). The Teacher Reuse Store is a unique collaboration of business, industry, education, and governmental partnerships. It provides an innovative approach to the recovery and reuse of business and industry discards and/or by-products. The store will provide a variety of items to local teachers (Clarke, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe County teachers in both public and private schools) for FREE. Last year was a huge success with close to 200 teachers “shopping” among more than 15 tons of donated materials.

Currently, the organizers are seeking items for the event. A variety of local businesses have already donated items to the store. Items include, but are not limited to the following: general office supplies – binders, file folders, clipboards, labels, paper, etc. Also, unusual items such as industry by-products might be useful for art supplies, classroom organization, and/or other school functions. Electronics or hazardous materials will not be accepted. The goal of the Teacher Reuse Store is to provide usable materials to teachers for no cost AND to reduce the amount of waste disposed in our local landfill. Please take the time and examine what your business or industry discards and you might discover that your trash is a teacher’s treasure!

SEPTEMBER

Super Shredder Saturday

The fourth annual shred event will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Residents and small businesses from around the region can shred confidential documents for FREE. The annual shredding event will take place in the Georgia Square Mall parking lot. There is a two-box maximum. This service is provided by The Lindsay Group, www.lindsaytransfer.com.
